Natural Resource Strategies is a consortium of environmental professionals with expertise in air, water, energy, and land use policy, as well as communications and nonprofit management.

Mara Elana Burstein, Principal

Mara has more than 10 years experience working on air, water, energy, and sustainability issues. Her expertise includes policy analysis, program development, and marketing/ communications. Mara is a co-founding board member of the Los Angeles Sustainability Collaborative, a nonprofit that trains young professionals on how to conduct applied research and communicate effectively to inform environmental policy decisions. She holds a BA in Environmental Studies from Willamette University and an MPA in Environmental Science and Policy from Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs.

Nora Hakkakzadeh, Program Associate

Based in Los Angeles, Nora has eight years experience working in program management, community outreach, communications and fundraising & development. Her work has focused on clean energy, water management, infrastructure planning and environmental policy. She holds a BS in Environmental Science from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA)  and a Masters in Urban and Regional Planning (MURP) from UCLA.

Margaux Nguyen, Senior Program Associate

Based in New York City, Margaux brings over seven years of environmental project management experience. She specializes in energy use, land use planning, coastal resiliency and supply chain analysis. Margaux holds a BA in Business Management Economics from University of California, Santa Cruz and an MPA in Environmental Policy from Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs.

Megan Nelson, Program Associate

Based in Salt Lake City, Megan has 10 years of experience in environmental and natural resource planning and legal consulting. She specializes in public land and natural resource management, the National Environmental Policy Act, federal permitting, transmission, and public involvement. Megan holds a B.A. in English and an Honors Degree from Westminster College as well as a J.D. and Natural Resources Law and Policy Certificate from the University of Colorado School of Law.



Alyssa Curran, Program Associate

Alyssa has five years of experience in government, consulting, nonprofit work, and academia. Her work has focused on water policy, natural resources management, corporate social responsibility, habitat restoration and conservation, and strategic urban planning and design. Alyssa graduated Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude from UCLA with a BA in Geography/Environmental Studies.
